Today at Apple: Exploring Color and Culture
In honor of Black History Month, Melanin Unscripted founder, Amarachi Nwosu, shared insights into color theory as it relates to culture, complexion, and environment at Apple Carnegie Library in Washington.
NATIVE House: Breaking the Borders of African Creativity
In partnership with NATIVE Magazine, Melanin Unscripted hosted a series of panels and an exhibition in Lagos, Nigeria with a focus on steering conversation on the new found focus on Africa as a major creative hub.
Davido Talk at Columbia University
Melanin Unscripted along with Columbia University's African Students Association hosted none other than Nigerian megastar Davido for a talk entitled "Shaping the Image of Africa Through Music," which focused on the themes in his newly released sophomore album A Good Time as well as "the next frontier of afrobeats."
MU X Trybe: “A Good Time” Afro-Dance Workshop
Choreographer and dancer Izzy Odigie hosted a special workshop in commemoration of Davido’s “A Good Time” album release. Collectively with her dance collective TRYBE and MU, the workshop brought some of the dopest afro dancers and influencers in NYC within the diaspora to come together and have “A Good Time”.
Made By She: SANKOFA Exhibition
Bae Tokyo and Ultra Super New Gallery team up with Nigerian-American artist Amarachi Nwosu on a Black History month exhibition and screening in Tokyo, Japan under their Made By She series. Her exhibition ‘Untold Stories Of The Diaspora’ will commemorate the expansion of black narratives and the act of artist taking ownership over stories on their community by creating new stories that shape history.
Chi Modu x BUDXLAGOS
In partnership with Budweiser, MU curated Chi Modu’s homecoming experience in Nigeria, which featured an exhibition of his work, a masterclass for Nigerian creatives, a mini concert featuring Ladipoe and Dremo and an afterparty DJ’d by MU founder Amarachi Nwosu, Smallz the DJ, DJ Calix and more.
Exposing New Narratives: Shaping Innovation in African Creative Industries
All roads led to the Maison Fahrenheit hotel as Melanin Unscripted hosted the Exposing New Narratives Panel. Major stakeholders in African music and fashion such as Grace Ladoja, Maleek Berry, Reni Folawiyo, and Ugo Mozie discussed the innovation and progressive strides in the creative industry throughout Africa and around the world.
